Welcome Rav Yaacov Haber as the new Rav
The kehilla welcomes Rav Yaacov Haber as the new Rav of Kehillas Shivtei Yeshurun. Rav Haber accepted the position earlier in the week, and sent the letter below to the membership announcing his acceptance:
Dear Members of Kehillas Shivtei Yeshurun,
We were very honored to be offered the position of Rav and Rebbitzen of your community.
Last week, when we visited Ramat Beit Shemesh for Shabbos, we were pleased to find a group of sincere, fine Bnei Torah, who are committed to Hashem and His Torah. We understood that it would be a zchus to work with you to build a full service community and create a home for the Shechinah.
With that in mind I will be honored to accept the position of Rav of Kehillas Shivtei Yeshurun. We look forward to joining the community for Rosh HaShanah.
ויהי נועם ד' אלקינו עלינוB’Virchas Ksiva V’Chasima Tova!

Kbay - Auction for Yomim Noraim Honors
Getting an aliyoh on the Yomim Noraim is a big zechus.
The poskim mention that it is appropriate to try to receive an aliyoh
during the Yomim Noraim:
ראוי לכל גבר ירא ד' להשתדל שיהיה לו עליה בימים נוראים, ואף במקומות שמוכרין מצות יקנה אותם בדמים כפי יכלתו, ואדרבה יש עלוי יותר במצוה שבאה אליו בדמים ממצוה שבאה לו בחנם אין כסף. (מ''ב תקפ''ד סק''ח בשם מטה אפרים)
At KSY, bidding on aliyos laTorah for the Yomim Noraim is done in advance, since it is our custom not to hold bidding for aliyos on Yom Tov or Shabbos.
This year's kBay can be found on-line at www.ksy.org.il.
Bidding for the Rosh Hashonoh aliyos closes at 10:50 on
Mon. 29-Sep-08 (Erev Rosh Hashonoh).
As per Rav Rubanowitz: If at the time of making the pledge one intends to use maaser money towards the purchase of a kibbud (aliyoh or the like), he may fulfill his pledge from money that he wishes to use as maaser. If, however, after he has pledged the money he decides to use his maaser money in order to fulfill the pledge, he should not (Taz Y.D. 249:1).
In order to bid, you need to enter your username and password. The username is typically your email address. There is a password recovery system in place so that you can recovery your password if you forgot it. If you have trouble bidding or logging in, please write to secretary@ksy.org.il
Selichos
The Vasikin minyon will continue saying selichos each morning this week (other than on Rosh Hashonah). Start time is 30 minutes before the scheduled start time of Shacharis except for erev Rosh Hashonah (Monday) when the start time is 60 minutes before Shacharis.
Note that there is also a minyon schedule for Friday morning. The full schedule appears here.
Reminder: The minyon will meet tomorrow (Friday) and next week on Friday for selichos.

Choleh List & KSY Database Online
In order to make the mi shebeirach for cholim a little more efficient, KSY now maintains a list of cholim via the internet. Current Names on the list can be seen at http://www.ksy.org.il/cholim.asp. Please note that names that have not been updated for more than 2 months will not be announced. You can update a name by notifying the KSY Secretary or by logging into your account and editing the older Cholim records.
Protecting the Gan
A friendly reminder to the Kehilla: The toys and fixtures in the gan are not the property of the Kehilla.
- Please don't allow you children to play with the toys within the gan.
- Please be careful with all the children's projects on the walls.
- Please do not play in or on the guardhouse in the front of the gan.
- The children are permitted to play on the toy structures in the sand area. But the Rav would like to remind the kehilla that the children may not dig in the sand. A parent should prevent his child of any age from digging in the sand on Shabbos. Every adult should attempt to stop any child from digging as long as the child is old enough to understand that there are some things that are forbidden to do on Shabbos
Pruzbal
As we approach the end of the Shmitta year, we become more aware of the din of Shmittas Kesafim, the nullification of loans. Any creditor with an outstanding loan who wishes to collect his or her loans after the Shmitta year, must make a Pruzbul before the end of the year.
Rav Yaacov Haber has reviewed and approved a Pruzbul form, which is available at http://media.shivteiyeshurun.org/pruzbal.pdf. Please download the file and review the form and instructions. You can bring the form to Beis Knesses Ateres Shaul (1 Shvil Hagichon) at the end of the Shacharis Minyan Monday morning around 07:15. At approximately that time we will form a beis din and accept the pruzbals

Nedavos & Other Donations to KSY
KSY would like to thank the following people for their donations during the past week
- 100nis - anonymous
Please consider allowing us to announce your name when thanking you for your donation. Public donations tend to encourage others to follow your lead when they see the efforts of others.
Reminder: Dues at KSY are 140 shekels per month. Please help the Kehilla by keeping your membership payments current. Please contact Avraham Nadell, the KSY Treasurer, with questions about the status of your account.
Did you know? Everyone who is called to the Torah on Shabbos or Yom Tov gets one free mi sheberach. The Gabbai will then offer the Oleh l'Torah an optional 2nd mi sheberach. If one accepts the Gabbai’s offer, the custom in our Kehilla is to obligate oneself to make a modest donation. Please turn to any of the gabboim if you should have a question about this.
Reminder: KSY can accept US Dollar payments with a credit card via American Friends of Kehillas Shivtei Yeshurun. See the donation page online: www.afoksy.com/donate
Rav Baruch Rubanowitz's Discretionary Fund
Sometimes receiving just a little extra money at the right time can avert a tragedy. Through his involvement with families at Kehillas Shivtei Yeshurun, Rav Baruch Rubanowitz has come to realize that many crises can be prevented or resolved with financial assistance. Such situations can arise in respectable, wage-earning families who donate to the local tzedokoh organizations and would not want to request money from them.
Rav Rubanowitz allocates the money to people who need help getting through difficult times. It might be used to pay for a few hours of household help, food, medical needs or urgent professional counseling. He has a very high threshold for when to utilize the funds and reserves them exclusively for exceptional circumstances. Additionally, he will only dispense money if he is extremely familiar with the case and is confident that the assistance will indeed solve the problem.
You are encouraged you to donate tzedokoh or maaser kesofim to Rav Rubanowitz’s Discretionary Fund. This can be done through Shivtei Yeshurun, or with a tax-deductible donation to American Friends of Shivtei Yeshurun www.AFOKSY.com/donate. This is a way to help your friends in Ramat Beit Shemesh Aleph without knowing who they are and without their knowing who you are.
Please note that this fund remains active today (after the General Meeting Vote), and will continue IY"H into the future.
