Meet The Members

This week we introduce the Wajnblum family - one of the founding families of our kehilla, and the Bergenfeld Family, who joined us just around a year and a half ago.

Danny and Elana Wajnblum and family moved to Nachal Lachish from Har Nof just under 8 years ago. They have five children - Betzalel Eliezer(8), Chana Bracha(6), Yisrael (4), Akiva Nachum (2) and Tamar Temima (6 months). Danny works at Hadassah Hospital in Ein Karem as a biomedical engineer in the Department of Nuclear Medicine, while Elana holds the fort at home.

Danny grew up in Melbourne, Australia, and went to Mount Scopus College (a very large Jewish day school) before making numerous trips to Israel which finally culminated in his aliyah in 5752 (1992) whilst learning at Yeshivat Shappell's/Darche Noam. Elana was born in Los Angeles, went to YULA for high school, followed by seminary in Israel, and Shalhevet and Ma’alot programs at Neve Yerushalayim. Soon after she began working as a dental assistant while serving as a madricha at Neve.

It was one of patients in the dental clinic who strongly suggested Danny and Elana’s shidduch. In fulfillment of there dreams to settle and raise a family in Israel Danny and Elana married in Yerushalayim in 5760 (2000) albeit under somewhat unusual circumstances. Danny was highly contagious with the chicken pox (Elana soon after received an inoculation for it since she never had the chickenpox!).

Danny and Elana were amongst the original core group of KSY'ers and are thrilled to see KSY and its members growing and expanding both physically and spiritually under the guidance and leadership of Rabbi Haber. Together they look forward to help in welcoming new members into the KSY family.

The Bergenfeld FamilyHeidi and Baruch Bergenfeld made aliyah from Los Angeles in February 2005 with their 4 children Shira, Adina, Matan Yisrael and Simcha Chaim, ages 13, 11, 9 and 4. Baruch is from New Jersey and Heidi is from Los Angeles. They met and were married in Los Angeles in 1995. Prior to moving to RBS-A 2 years ago, they lived in yishuv Nof Ayalon. Baruch is an Electrical Engineer managing a consulting company specializing in chip design. He is also a guitarist and vocalist and enjoys writing, recording and performing music. Heidi has a Masters in Business Administration and is generally mastering the business of raising 4 talented and spirited kids in the derech Hashem. She also enjoys photography, arts and crafts, scrapbooking and gardening.

Shabbos Program for Boys Ages 4-7!

We are pleased to announce the continuation of the exciting afternoon program for boys of ages 4-7, organized by Yossi Haber and Mordechai Eliyahu Seltzer.

KSY Parnosso Project

In light of the fact that a number of KSY members and friends are currently looking for work, Rav Haber is interested in using his network to help the situation. Please assemble your CV, a generic cover letter and a short job description title (e.g., Accountant, Web designer) and send them all to Rav Haber (yhaber@torahlab.org). Rav Haber plans to reach out to his many contacts to see how people can be helped.

Amud Yomi Corner

Berachos 6b speaks of the importance of greeting one another. If someone fails to to return a greeting he is considered a thief.
"ואם נתן לו ולא החזיר נקרא גזלן"
Therefore, the Maharsha points out, one should not greet someone that you know won't return the greeting since by doing so you are making him into a thief.

Come learn Gemora Berachos (Rashi, Ikar Tosafos and Rosh) with Magid Shiur Rabbi Yechiel Weisz. The shiur will cover approximately one amud a day. Place: Ateres Shaul from 08:30 to 09:30am, Sunday through Thursday morning. Please bring your own Gemara. Coffee and milk will be provided. Any questions, contact Yechiel Weisz.

Gemora Chaburah

Looking for a new gemora learning seder? The KSY Gemora Chaburah meets Monday and Wednesday evenings and Friday morning, learning maseches Avodah Zara under the guidance and instruction of Rabbi Yaacov Haber. Avodah Zara is a very eclectic and relevant Gemora delving into issues such as: Business and social interactions between Jews and non-Jews, halachos of lifnei iver, tefilla, psak halacha and mesirus nefesh. Rabbi Haber gives an elucidating and uplifting shiur on Wednesday evenings. Learning is b'chavrusa and b'chabura. If you are looking for a serious and interesting gemora chabura that combines breadth and depth then look no further! Call or email Danny at 050-4048566 or danielw@ksy.org.il for more information

Choleh List & KSY Database Online

In order to make the mi shebeirach for cholim a little more efficient, KSY now maintains a list of cholim via the internet. Current names on the list can be seen at http://www.ksy.org.il/cholim.asp. Please note that names that have not been updated for more than 2 months will not be announced. You can update a name by notifying the KSY Secretary or by logging into your account and editing the older Cholim records.

Rav Haber Online

Can't get enough of the Rav's Torah? Listening to his MP3 shiurim is almost as good as being there. The Rav has given a number of thought provoking shiurim as part of his Tefilla Series and the Mesechta Avoda Zora chaburah that are available at www.ksy.org.il/audio.asp. Topics include: "What is bracha", "Krias Shema - Oneness with Hashem", "Giving Thanks", "When is my tefilla accepted", "The Goal of Olam haZeh", "Using the forces of Heaven" and many more.

Nedavos & Other Donations to KSY

KSY would like to thank the following people for their donations during the past week:

  • 750S62; - Julian Synett

Please consider allowing us to announce your name when thanking you for your donation. Public donations tend to encourage others to follow your lead when they see the efforts of others.

Did you know? Everyone who is called to the Torah on Shabbos or Yom Tov gets one free mi sheberach. The Gabbai will then offer the Oleh l'Torah an optional 2nd mi sheberach. If one accepts the Gabbai’s offer, the custom in our Kehilla is to obligate oneself to make a modest donation. Please turn to any of the gabboim if you should have a question about this.

  • Donation from Israel: Please contact Avraham Nadell, KSY Treasurer, for information on Israel tax receipts.
  • Donation from USA: American Friends of Kehillas Shivtei Yeshurun can accept your donation on behalf of the kehilla. See www.afoksy.com/donate for complete details.
